NIKKI: What's the story behind Apollo Academy? What made you write it? :)
KIM: I'm a HUGE reader and a few years ago I began to feel like there was something missing in my own reading pile. And you know the saying- Write the book that you want to read. . . Well, when I mentioned this thought to my husband, he encouraged me to do just that. Looking back now it seems obvious that I've been collecting pieces of The Apollo Academy my entire life. From nights spent looking through a telescope, Space Camp, flying lessons, to reading science fiction books. When I finished writing TAA I knew this was the book I'd been wanting to find. A book about a young woman who loved to fly. One that wasn't historical. One that was fun and sexy. . .The Apollo Academy.

NIKKI: Besides from your obvious love for aeronautics and writing, what are the other things that you love?
KIM: Reading! I usually have a book or kindle in front of my face. Like permanently. I also love baking cookies, watching movies, and going to the beach.

NIKKI:Do you have other dream jobs that aren't related to flying and/or writing?
KIM: Haha. No, not really. All of my dream jobs would include aviation in some way. Helicopter Pilot/Astronaut/Sky Dive Instructor. Though if I weren't so shy, I think it'd be fun to be an actress.

NIKKI: Are you an adrenaline junkie? What's the most extreme activity you've done?
KIM: "I feel the need, the need for speed." -Top Gun. Sorry! Couldn't help myself. Best adrenaline rush so far. . .jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.

NIKKI: Do you consider yourself a bookworm? Who's your favorite author? What's your favorite book?
KIM: I think everyone I know would call me a bookworm! I have a TON of favorite authors, but my all time favorites are Cinda Williams Chima, Kimberly Derting, Colleen Houck, Marissa Meyer, Richelle Mead, Kresley Cole, Jean M. Auel. Oh gosh...I can't seem to stop! I can't possibly pick a favorite book of all time, so I'll go with my favorite book right now. Poison Princess by Kresley Cole.

NIKKI: Who's your ultimate Hollywood crush?
KIM: Chris Pine!

NIKKI: If there's one place on Earth that you would want to live for the rest of your life, where would that be?
KIM: I live there right now, Charleston, SC. BUT if I didn't worry about being away from family, I'd move to Kona, Hawaii in a heartbeat.

NIKKI: Top 3 in your bucket list?
KIM: Earn my helicopter ratings, travel the world with my family and learn a second language fluently.

NIKKI: Tea or Coffee?
KIM: Sweet Tea

NIKKI: If time machines are feasible, what part of your life would you want to go back to?
KIM: Hmmm... I don't think I want to go back and change anything. But it would be fun to relive college life all over again!

Thanks Kimmy for doing this interview stuff with me! ~Nikki xoxo

Nikki reviews: TWO ROADS by L.M. Augustine

Title: TWO ROADS
Author: L.M. Augustine

~Synopsis~

The only person poetry-loving Cali Monroe hates more than herself is Logan Waters, the geeky kid who lives in the dorm building next to hers.
Ever since Cali's parents told her she would amount to nothing, she has felt entirely inadequate. Friendless and alone, she takes on the mean girl role in hopes it will make her feel better--and Logan serves as the perfect target. He infuriates her with his obnoxiously long lashes, his all too perfect dimpled smile, and his complete lack of personality outside of his intelligence. It doesn't hurt that he's part of the reason her brother is dead, either. So Cali hates him, and he returns the favor. Thus, their prank-filled, insult-driven rivalry is born, and torturing Logan quickly becomes the highlight of her life.
But when Cali's parents set them up on a blind date, she begins to realize Logan might not be as boring as she always thought. He shares her love of poetry, takes a sadistic pleasure in making fun of crepes, and he makes her blush when he calls her smile pretty. And hey, maybe those long lashes of his aren't that obnoxious after all...

~Review~

Who doesn’t love geeky nerds? Raise your hands and I’ll shoot you. Kidding? NO. I am definitely not.

Hmmm I think that opening line I just wrote is a bit dramatic and war-freak. Let’s do it again.

Who doesn’t love HOT geeky nerds with obnoxious long eyelashes? No one, right? Us bookworms always have that soft spot in our hearts for the geeky book boyfriends. Oh c’mon, admit it, you guys.

As for me, well I recently found a diamond in the form of Logan Waters, my ultimate geeky book boyfriend! I LOVE HIM so much it hurts! (I always have the tendency to be overly dramatic where book boyfriends are concern so please, bear with me.)

So what do we have with TWO ROADS?

1. Poetry. I love books with poetry in them, be it just a little or more than half the book itself. When poetry is involved, it gets a little more interesting for me. So when I read the blurb of Two Roads and there’s the word poetry in there, I was like “Ohhh...” complete with drool and stuff. I was willing to give my internal organs in exchange for an ARC but thank goodness Lucas didn’t require that! Lucky me and my liver and my kidney and other shits. Thanks, Luke! ;-)

2. Humour. I love books that could make me laugh out loud. Not just the normal laugh, but the kind of laugh that causes your mother to run the stairs and check what the hell’s happening with her daughter and when she opens the door she finds her daughter lying on the bed on her stomach, iPad on hand laughing like a lunatic. Yep, story of my life while reading TR.

3. Great characters. I already professed my undying love for Logan Waters but I won’t give him all the credit. I think he wouldn’t be the desirable Logan if not for Cali. They really complement each other, and by compliment I mean annoy the hell out of each other. They are so delightful to watch (I know this isn’t a movie but whatever) when they’re neck to neck strangling each other with non-stop banters, I loved it so much and I wanted to make them into key-chains because they are so cute! Haha!

4. Nerdy math pick-up lines that are printed on Logan’s shirts. Can’t say anything more. Just read the book and you’ll know what I am talking about. I find it so cute and adorable that I wished Logan just comes to life already because I am going to marry him, Cali be damned.

5. Pranks. Ohmigod. The pranks that Logan and Cali came up for each other are borderline genius. (Here, here. Overly dramatic I say? Doesn’t need to remind you that every minute. Yeah?) I read one prank scene and I was like “Why am I so well-behaved during high school and college I didn’t think of doing these things?! WHY?!” LOL. I read another and I was like, “I am so doing this, forget the age. Pranks are for all ages.” Then I went into deep thought of to whom I can apply these awesome pranks and I couldn’t think of anyone. Reality kicks in and I began to weep because I have no Logan in my life. Logan isn’t real. Logan. Why, Logan do you have to be fictional? My life sucks.

6. Banters. I love you Lucas for writing these things!!! (Wait, you’re probably wondering who is this Lucas/Luke I keep mentioning? Well, duh. He’s the author. You know, L.M. Augustine? Yeah. Lucas is his name. Don’t ever argue with me, Lucas! I know you’re reading this!) Okay back to the matter that matters, the banters. (Wow, look what I did there. Take that for poetry Luke! ;-)) I especially love the email exchange between Logan and Cali about the marlin. That is so hilariously adorable! These banters were the fuel in Logan and Cali’s fire. It’s what kept them going. I’m gonna use the following lines from Cali because this perfectly explains what non-sense I am trying to say here. ;-)

We have this strange way of making each other happy by making each other miserable. We’re basically enemies with benefits, but our benefits are the distractions we give each other...

7. Conflict (The Ben Issue). I think the conflict has been justifiably executed. It was done right, not just to add drama or anything but it was really a crucial part that played a very big role on the development of the characters along the story. Yes, I sound like a nerd or a wanna-be nerd.

8. HEA. No cliff-hangers. YES! I love book series but I actually love standalones more because they don’t make us wait. Waiting does a lot on people you know. And I love how Logan and Cali’s HEA was delivered even though that meant I have no chance with Logan anymore. I love how they were able to let go of that one thing that keep them from moving on, together. How they were in love with each other all along. I love just how they are meant to be.

9. Cali Monroe. The bitch who stole Logan from me. I really didn’t want to include her here but this list refuses to be complete if I don’t mention her. Even though my heartbreak was because of her I still adore her. She’s a strong girl, stronger than what she gives herself credit for. I mean, we all have our ways of coping up with devastation no matter what the reasons are. I’m in no position to judge Cali on whatever way she chose to cope up with distress. I’m a reader and the writer’s goal is to make me feel empathic toward the heroine which Luke successfully managed to fulfil.

10. Logan Waters. I never ever considered in my life, not even once or not even in my fantasies, to share a man with someone else but for Logan I am giving it a consideration. So Cali, if you are reading this, I am just here waiting. ;-) Logan Waters. My ultimate nerd book boyfriend. I’m no good at this casting stuff but when I started reading TR, there’s only one person in my mind as Logan. And that is... Andrew Garfield. Yes people, Andrew. If you don’t agree, that is not my problem anymore, is it? Go find your own Logan for all I care. But for me he is Logan. Look, how can you not agree with me on this one? Seriously people, he is Logan. Look at him. Just.. LOOK AT HIM. OHMYGOD. I KNOW RIGHT?!!! He's so perfectly fine. Just dress him up with one of Logan's geeky shirts and OMG I wanna go back to college and enroll in a Logan-have-my-babies curriculum. Oh shit, what am I even talking about? I've gone mad people! So sorry not sorry! ;-) So who doesn't love geeky nerdy dorky book boyfriends? Okay good, I no longer see raised hands. Good girls. ;-)

I think I am done listing stuff that gives TR its own life. You know how bookworms tend to have their own lists of their self-made book categories like books-that-make-me-want-to-slap-every-person-I-see or books-that-made-me-ugly-cry, those kinds of lists. Well, I have a list which is dedicated for geeky, nerdy, dorky vibes and I named that one books-that-make-me-want-to-wear-eyeglasses-that-would-instantly-turn-me-into-a-mathematician. TWO ROADS is currently at the top of that list, along with Luke’s other book, Click to Subscribe. L.M. is so pro at writing these things I honestly believe he’s one of them. I know he’s a self-proclaimed dork, but when I was reading TR I told him that maybe he’s the real Logan. Maybe he’s real name is Logan Martin Augustine? When will you ever tell me, Lucas? ;-) Okay, let me use this space to thank the mind behind this charming story. Thanks L.M. for writing these kinds of stuff. I mean, every once in a while bookworms need fresh and light stories like this one. Not always those stories full of angst and issues that made readers want to be admitted in an asylum. Well, you know what I mean people. ;-)
Here's my playlist for Logan and Cali's story :
Pray For You by Jaron and the Long Road
Cat and Mouse by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
Petals Back On The Rose by Jaron and the Long Road
Let's Be Us Again by Lonestar
It's Always Been You by Chris August
(If you want to view the playlist on YouTube, click here)

~Playlist~

For my book playlist I had a very hard time looking for songs that would perfectly fit Logan and Cali’s life stories. Really, really hard time. I found this one song and when I heard it, I immediately thought of Logan and Cali and their banters. The whole song doesn’t really fit but ohmygod the chorus is so perfect. You heard the song Pray for You by Jaron and the Long Road? Riiight?!!! If you haven’t heard it, well it’s in the playlist above and I included some lines from the song’s chorus. Here goes:
I pray your brakes go out runnin' down a hill
I pray a flower pot falls from a window sill
And knocks you in the head like I'd like to
I pray your birthday comes and nobody calls
I pray you're flyin' high when your engine stalls
I pray all your dreams never come true
Just know wherever you are, honey, I pray for you
Other songs in the playlists were included because they’re the ones I was listening to while writing this review. The Cat and Mouse by Red Jumpsuit well maybe because of the title. Haha! I am so not good at these stuffs I swear! Most of the songs I chose only have parts that fit TR, not the whole song. Just like this another song by Jaron and the Long Road entitled Petals Back on the Rose:
Can we put the petals back on the rose?
It's been you and me and this stem of thorns from a long time of lows.
Sadness and frustration.
Sometimes that's how it goes.
But baby tonight I start to put the petals back on the rose.
And this part from Let’s Be Us Again by Lonestar:
Look at me I’m way past pride
Isn't there some way that we can try
To be us again
Even if it takes a while
I'll wait right here until I see that smile
That says we're us again
Despite my incompetence on finding fitting songs, I think I nailed it with this one. I chose It’s Always Been You by Christ August as Logan’s song for Cali. Enjoy.
It's always been You
From the day that I saw You
From a heart that was broken
I was changed into something brand new
Like a butterfly learning
How to use my wings to fly like the wind
I gotta make it home again
It's always been You
Seeing deeper than the surface
With a smile You demolish
All my walls You can always break through
To the heart of the matter
No matter what I try to do
When I hide from the sun
You come and change my point of view
And I'm sorry for the things I've done
When You ran to me, I turned to run
But You were waiting when I came undone
And needed something to hold on to
'Cause it's always been You
In the heat of the moment
When the pain was so real
And the scars on my heart were still wounds
I gotta stop hiding
From the one thing that's left to do
I know what I gotta do
And I'm sorry for the things I've done
When You ran to me, I turned to run
But You were waiting when I came undone
And needed something to hold on to
It's always been You
I wake up, I wake up
To the morning light, to Your morning light
I wake up, I wake up
'Cause You shine so bright
I'm sorry for the things I've done
When You ran to me, I turned to run
Yeah, You were waiting, You were waiting
And I'm sorry for the things I've done
When You ran to me, I turned to run
But You were waiting when I came undone
You gave me something to hold on to
Yeah, it's always been You
Oh, it's always been You
Oh, it's always been You
And I want to end this review by leaving you guys my most favourite quote from TWO ROADS.
Because if someone, just by their existence, can brighten up your whole day, you have to try like hell to keep them in your life.”

~Review~

I don’t even know where to start on this review.  I guess I’ll begin with the Acknowledgement and Author’s Note. That was one of the most beautiful Author’s Notes I have ever read. I’m glad that Kristen Ashley got her inspiration to write the characters of the Rock Chick series from her close friends and family.

I admit I got choked up a bit reading her message. Rock Chick Revolution is the 8th and final instalment of the Rock Chick series. This is Ally and Ren’s story and I must say KA did not disappoint. I liked Ally in the previous Rock Chick books, especially the first one although there were times that she was really almost getting on my nerves because she was always up in other people’s business but I have grown to love her. And when I get started on the Rock Chick series, I almost felt bad that she might not get a story because she was always coming on too strong for me and I was afraid no man can handle her. She was just like the female counterpart of an alpha male. Along came Ren Zano. Picture this: Italian American Hothead. Did you get the picture? Yes? Did you drool? Coz I kinda did. *giggles*

Anyway, we all know that Ren had a thing for Ava (Luke’s woman from Rock Chick Revenge) but of course Ava was meant for Luke and in one of those badass macho moment in Luke’s story Ren and Ally got to know each other. Well, I didn’t know that of course until I read Revolution. Oh boy did they really get to know each other. I admire Ally in this book. And I know I haven’t really said that to other heroines in the Rock Chick series because I was so so busy admiring the Hot Bunch (especially Luke and my Hispanic Hottie Hector) but Ally was really one kickass woman. And I didn’t just say that because she saved Faye (from Breathe of the Colorado Mountain Men series) and that she can sense bad vibes from people and that she can knee and crush a man’s balls when situation calls for it, but because she can hold herself on her own. Just reading about her and getting to know her, even without Ren, is unravelling. Yeah sure, she may be too stubborn at times and too tough for her own good but once you learn why you’ll understand her and love her even more. I even had a few moments when I almost clapped and cheered for her. And being the masochist that I am, I had a few crying moments on this book too. It wasn’t the bawling kind of cry but you know, the silent type of cry. And those were the ones that really hurt. I hurt for her when she was hurt because of Ren, because of her dad, brothers and even Darius. I love how Ally felt deeply, hurt deeply but love deeply too. And I loved it when finally she and Ren acknowledged that they were in love.

Now since we’re talking about Ren, what’s not to love about him? Seriously, he might not be one of Lee’s men but he can give those Hot Bunch a run for their money. And someone like him being that sweet to Ally, it’s just too much. I think I might have yelled into the book “Oh my God, Zano!” quite a number of times. And I know this is Ally and Ren’s story but can I just say? Luke still managed to sweep me off my feet and made me swoon during his wedding. I mean, I really squealed like a teenage girl on that part. I won’t give the details that much but my goodness, Luke. I love you! There I said it. Haha!

So, Rock Chick Revolution has been a great ending to an awesome and kickass series. This is not only a story about woman power. It’s a story about finding love, friendship, loyalty, making sacrifices, taking risks and most of all believing in fairy tales. Just like my favourite line from the book:

“Because it wasn’t perfect, none of it. But it was a fairytale. And people needed to believe in fairytales. Even flawed ones. Maybe especially flawed ones. And they needed to believe always.”

And the Rock Chick series is truly a fairy tale. It has that “until one day” moment. You know, when we were kids and we read all these fairy tale books and the main character goes through her life, it could be shitty, could be ordinary, and then we reach that part of the story where it says “until one day”. And that’s my favorite fairy tale part. That’s where the major shake-up happens to the main character’s life. That’s where she meets her prince charming, that’s where she finds out she’s a princess or she’s rich. Something. And it’s all for the best. And the Rock Chick series, it has that. And I love that KA never fails to give that to me as a reader. I may be obsessed with her alpha males but really, I’m also obsessed how she can give me all these fairy tales and happy endings in every book I read. And I always believe. I believe that even if the character’s life started out as really messed up, I still believe KA can give me a happy ever after. Because just like what Jane said, nothing really bad ever happens to fairy tales.

~Playlist~

I was trying to look for a more badass playlist but really I can’t top the songs on this book that KA already mentioned.

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

~Excerpt~

“Where are your jeans?” Josh asks as he meets me at my car the following morning.

“These are jeans.” I pull my tote bag out of the car and walk toward the front door of his house. “Is Seth here yet?”

“No, he’ll be a few minutes. I have him feeding the dogs at the big house.”
 “Okay.”

“Those are not jeans.” He’s scowling down at my denim shorts like they’re the devil incarnate.

“They’re denim.”

He narrows his chocolate eyes at me, but I see the humor there, and the butterflies take up residence in my belly again.

I love riling this guy up.

“Fine, they’ll have to do. Go ahead and get settled, Seth will be here in a minute. I have to ride out with a few of the guys to repair a fence, so I’ll see you at lunch time.” He pulls on some gloves and settles his green baseball cap on his head backwards again.

“You don’t wear cowboy hats?” I ask without thinking.

“Not usually. I have one, if you’d rather I wear it.” He smirks.

“No, just curious,” I mumble and head toward the house.

“Don’t leave before I get back. I have plans for you.” He grins wide, winks, and saunters off toward the massive barn that sits between his house and the big house.

Well, isn’t that view nice? His Levi’s hug his ass perfectly and sit low on his hips, and as he walks I can see his buttocks and thighs flex.

Dear God, I’m lusting after a rancher.

Nik reviews: THE FAULT IN OUR STARS by John Green

So I decided to face whatever shit that's been preventing me from writing this review. Yes, I am dreading this. But I feel like I need to say something so I can finally move on with my life and maybe when I look back thinking about Gus and Hazel, I won't be hurting much. Or maybe not.

But whatever. I am ready for this. I think?

Well people, here's a fact: 17 months after its release, I finally decided to read it. I know, people, trust me, I know.

So what took me so long? Honestly, I don't know. My TBR list grew out of hand and I purposefully stayed away from it like it was a cancer. The irony, huh?

There was once this book that I read and wrote my first ever book review and it was about death, loss, cancer. The usual shitty stuff. Oh wait, that isn't usual is it?

After reading that and writing a review, I stayed away from books dealing with cancer stuff like they're a plague. One book and I've had enough. I thought that book would be the most emotional book for me. I was traumatized. Why not? I've had this unfortunate experience with the fucking disease. I've lost someone so close to my heart because of it. So shoot me if I decided one book is enough to hurt me like hell.

Seven months after reading that book I decided to finally read TFiOS. I felt like I was ready, thinking that I've already read the book that crushed me and there is no way in this lifetime that there'd be a second book that'd do the same thing. But boy was I wrong. So, so wrong.

The Fault in Our Stars ruined me. It destroyed me like a Category 6 hurricane would wipe out a neighborhood, if there is even one. It ripped my heart out and handed it to me still beating. I saw it, I saw I was holding my heart on my palm still beating. And then I saw and felt the beating stopped.

It was just a damn book and it shouldn't be allowed to affect a person so much that you can feel the pain physically. I don't know about you people, but I felt my heart constricted several times while reading this book. Maybe it's because I can relate to the pain? Or maybe because John Green created such a powerful story?

Having talked about pain like it's my only business in this world, The Fault isn't about only that. You maybe discouraged to read it because of the way I talked about it but please don't. The Fault in Our Stars maybe the most painful book for me but it's also the most heartwarming book I've ever read.

It isn't just about loss, it's also about finding love and friendship amidst life's trials. It's about finding your support system when you least expect it. It's about acceptance, about fulfilling dreams and wishes, about believing.

I wanted to do something like what Sy did with her review of TFiOS, list down the Crying Jag parts. We actually have the same ones. So here goes...

Warning: Contains spoilers which I think are necessary to drive the point home.

Crying Jag Part One:

It's the latter part of the book that'd really do you. I mean, the book is perfectly written having the first half building emotions, preparing you for the worst. But it never really prepared me. So for the first crying festival:

Back to the hotel in Amsterdam and Gus started telling Hazel " Just before you went into the ICU, I started to feel this ache in my hip."

Goosebumps. Tears. Couldn't breathe. It was one of the most painful parts for me because it has confirmed the lingering fear I had.

Crying Jag Part Two:

Chapter 17, Hazel: I was hoping he didn't remember that I'd found the boy I love deranged in a wide pool of his own piss.

My heart broke for the both of them because I know the feeling exactly. I can perfectly picture Gus's face when he remembered, and you wouldn't want pity to show on your face. It fucking hurts, man. Trust me on this one.

Crying Jag Part Three:

The gasoline station scene where I think even those people void of feeling anything would be affected. I lost it at this point. I lost my grip on reality for a while there. I wasn't really able to tell which is reality and which is not. I thought I was Hazel Grace, because if I wasn't her, how come I felt a surreal amount of pain? John Green messed it up big time, for me.

Crying Jag Part Four:

The pre-funeral. Of course, just when I thought I 'd experience every emotion I could John Green springs this one on me. Wow, thank you, Green. Thank you so much I didn't know my heart is capable of dealing with those painful stuff until I read your book. *deciding if I'm to use sarcasm or not*

Crying Jag Part Five:

Gus's letter to Hazel Grace. Please people, if you decide not to read the whole book because of the emotional mess that it is, just please read this letter. Read it, and tell me that there is no good in loving someone if you knew you'd eventually lose them. And then I will tell you to fuck off, because.

~Playlist~

So I've decided that the song In My Veins is my song for this entire book. I'm not sure why, but I feel like it fits Gus and Hazel's story. Also, I think When I Look To The Sky by Train is a perfect song of Hazel's situation. You know, after everything.

So there, I don't think my review gave justice to what the book really is but hey, I've tried my best. If you're into New Adult and you think you won't love this book, think again. It might not fit into your current book flavor but please just give this book one shot. I promise it won't disappoint. One of the best books I've read my entire life.

Thumbs up, Green, thumbs up.

Sy reviews: THE FAULT IN OUR STARS by John Green

I was hesitant to write a review about this book for two reasons: One, I’ve read the story a year ago so I won’t be able to give that many details about the story. Two, I guess no matter how I try to express it, I won’t be able to put into actual words how beautiful this book was written and how this story has ruined me. What I can remember though is the emotions I felt when experiencing The Fault In Our Stars and I guess that’s what really matters the most.

So just some trivia about me: The Fault In Our Stars was the next book I read after reading Fifty Shades Of Grey. So needless to say, I was still in that little bubble caused by all things Christian Grey and I thought, hmmm, why not buy TFIOS? Continue the love and the happy ever after, right? Well, I was wrong. So wrong.  TFIOS is a story about these kids with cancer-Augustus Waters (he’s like my 3rd dream book boyfriend) and Hazel Lancaster. They met in the heart of Jesus (haha you have to read the book so you’ll know what I’m talking about. That part was so funny).  I’ve never really read a story about cancer. Actually, I try to stay away from books that I know will not have a happy ending. I’m telling you, I’m a believer of fairy tales and those happy ever after shit. Anyway, I started reading on this book and was tweeting about a quote from Hazel:

Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.

I really liked that quote and I think that quote best fits TFIOS. Anyway, a friend said I should be prepared on how the book will end. And to always always have a tissue in handy. So, I was like okay well maybe Hazel was gonna die because her cancer cells were not completely gone (something like that).

More than halfway into the book, I guess you can say I was totally ruined and in a crying jag. I remember posting photos in my FB page about Crying Jag parts 1-3. Those were snapshots of parts from the book that made me bawl. Warning: this will contain spoilers so if you haven’t read the book then don’t continue reading this review (but if you’re a spoiler kinda person then feel free to read through). If you’ve read the book, then let’s see if we cried on the same parts:

Crying Jag Part One:

When Hazel drove to the gasoline station and she called 911. Her line: “Hi, I’m at the Speedway at Eighty-sixth and Ditch, and I need an ambulance. The great love of my life has a malfunctioning G-tube.” When she said “the great love of my life” I think I just lost it and just burst into tears. I mean, I love how she called Gus the great love of her life. I think that was so sweet and beautiful even in the middle of an emergency.

Crying Jag Part Two:

When Gus told Hazel this: “I’ll fight it. I’ll fight it for you. Don’t you worry about me, Hazel Grace. I’m okay. I’ll find a way to hang around and annoy you for a long time.” You can tell Gus was really trying to fight in order to live. And I liked that. That he tried to remain strong for Hazel knowing that she was hurting.

*pauses for a while since this is making me so depressed*

Crying Jag Part Three:

The pre-funeral – I love what Hazel said to Gus. I won’t put in here anymore because I’m really close to crying my eyes out again.
The actual funeral – this was where the famous “Okay? Okay.” was mentioned.

The Fault In Our Stars was the first book that made me cry-ugly cry. I think I was an emotional mess for almost a week after reading this book.  This was so different from the usual books I’ve read in the past. This was also my best read of 2012. And just like what Hazel said, I think this book has filled me with this weird evangelical zeal that everytime someone asks me for a book suggestion this is the first book that comes to mind. I loved how this book made me feel happy and so sad in the end. I have a bit of a masochist side so I also like a good cry in a book. And oh boy did I cry. You can’t imagine how many Kleenex I used while reading this book.

So yeah, I think I can’t really put into words how this book had affected me. I don’t think I gave enough justice in writing this book review but I just wanna share to everyone that this book is one of the best books I have ever read. I think this is so far the best book I have read and I think once in a while people should read stories like this. You know, stories that will make you feel the heights of highs and the lowest of lows.

~Playlist~

I didn’t know there was even a song called The Fault In Our Stars and when you listen to it and read the book, that song is just a perfect for it.  I know some of the songs may not suit the story but these were the songs I listened to while writing this review and I think it just fits the emotions I felt towards this book. And Ed Sheeran’s Give Me Love? You know I love my Ginger Jesus so I had to toss that song in there. Plus, I think that could be Gus and Hazel’s love song. ;)

So, to all Nerdfighters reading this, DFTBA! ;)

Sy writes: To My Alphas With Love

Hi. I'm Syrel and I'm an addict. An Alpha Male addict.

This is for my favorite alpha males.

At first I wanted to write a review on one of my favorite Kristen Ashley books. But considering I have read a lot of KA novels already, it's so hard to choose which books and which alpha males to pick so I said (and this I decided while on a public vehicle) fuck this, I'm not gonna review a specific book but I'm gonna write something special for my favorite alpha males instead. And that idea was so appealing to me I actually felt butterflies in my stomach. Well, if there are butterflies who get high on nectar or something then those were the kind of butterflies I felt when the idea came to me.

So anyway, how did I hear about Kristen Ashley? From Twitter, where else? I've been following this book club and she tweeted about a book suggestion, The Gamble. I'm a Subject/Title girl and for some reason that title got my attention and so I started reading it and I have never been the same eversince. And I meant that in a good way.

I haven't heard of Kristen Ashley at that time so I had no idea most of her series are related or one series is a spinoff from another series. Needless to say, I didn't know about her reading guide when I started reading The Gamble from the Colorado Mountain Men series.

So going back to The Gamble... I met Max. Holden Maxwell. He was the first alpha male I've read so he will always hold a special place in my heart. Obviously, I have never heard of alpha males before so I was pretty shocked with Max's attitude. I was so used to good guys in my fictional world and I was not prepared at all by domineering men borderline caveman. And caveman is very apt to describe an alpha male and Max. I can actually picture him with his fist thumping on his chest saying, "you woman, mine!" Hahaha!

So what exactly are the qualities of an alpha male? Here's what I think:
  • Foul-mouthed
  • Tall men (regardless how tall the woman is, the alpha male still towers over her)
  • Rough and tough on the outside but a real sweetheart on the inside
  • Badass men with badass jobs (how hot is that?)
  • Can communicate using one word: Babe (seriously, after reading too many KA novels, that one word alone does things to me)
  • Domineering attitude but that's okay because he knows what's best for his woman
  • Sexy, hot and he may be the most beautiful man you've ever laid eyes on
  • Tends to hurt you deep (unintentionally) but can love you just as deep too. In other words, he's worth it.
  • They can be aggravating at times but their hotness factor more than made uo for it
Okay, so going back to Max. Like I said, he's the first alpha I've met and after the initial shock brought about by his attitude, I have grown to love him. And boy, did I love him deep. I like how direct he was, how sweet he could be, how he knew what he wanted and how he fought for what he wanted. And that was his woman, Nina. That lucky bitch! Well, no, she's not really a bitch. I'm just an envious girl who wants a Max in my life too. Hehehe.

So after finishing The Gamble, I went ahead and dived into the rest of the Colorado Series where I met Tate from Sweet Dreams, Ty from Lady Luck and Chace from Breathe. I gotta say, Max and Chace were my favorite from this series. Colorado Mountain Men has got to be my ultimate favorite KA series.

I've also read the Dream Man series. Not really my favorite except for Tack from Motorcycle Man and Mitch from Law Man. I've read The 'Burg series too but it's really hard to top Colorado Mountain Men series.

That was until I met the Hot Bunch from the Rock Chick series. I was like, seriously, take me to Denver right now! I mean, what is up with all these alphas in Colorado? Is it the water that they drink? The air they breathe? Really, if I could be in any place right now, I'd choose Colorado so I can find my own alpha male. So Rock Chick series and the Hot Bunch, yeah. I love how the stories in this series get better after each book. But my favorites in this series have to be Luke, Vance and my Hispanic Hottie Hector. My God, Hector, you had me at all those Spanish endearments. *blushes*

I still sometimes feel the need to follow the reading guide on KA's novels but reading guide or not, I love how I discovered these alphas in my own way. I don't know how KA writes it and in my humble opinion, I think almost all her alphas and stories are the same but still I'm hooked all the time. It's like I was always in a trance or daze (ehem, Eddie Daze) or something whenever I read her books. And I may not have read all her books yet especially the paranormals but I always, always need to have my KA alpha fix. I am so addicted to them that reading about them gets me out of a funk. And I have always said this but KA's alphas are my kind of crack. Yes yes, I'm an alpha male junkie and I can't get enough of them.

So yeah, this is to express my undying love and obsession to KA's alphas and also a message to the great cosmic universe to give me an alpha in my life too. Haha! Okay, that's probably too much to ask but what the hell.

Kristen Ashley, thank you! Thank you for writing about these alphas. Now I can definitely say I have this automatic alpha male radar in me that does not turn off. I love your alpha males and I sure hope you write more of them. Thia is how I look like everytime I get lovestruck with KA's alphas:

~Review~

Let me first list down the things I loved about this book:
  1. Danny
  2. Dual POV
  3. Love that stood the test of time << Ooohhhh.. Never knew I could also be deep sometimes ;)
  4. Danny
  5. No cheaters
  6. Danny
  7. Tattooed heroine
  8. Danny
  9. No fucked up pasts
  10. Danny

Basically, half of the list is because I love how... Wait... I listed 5 Dannys? But there was only one Danny, right? Okay. No, I will never gonna admit that I loved this book all because of Danny. Nope, not happening guys. Sorry. ;)

So... Kerry's debut novel? Shit, man, shit. Major cliffhanger. But I don't give a shit although I've said it quite a few times. I am not really a fan of cliffhangers but goddammit if this one didn't grow on me. Who wouldn't with Danny? Shit.

I love stories with separation and shit and getting back together and shit, so it was a no-brainer that I loved this book. The moment I read its blurb way back I knew I had to read this. And I didn't regret reading this!

I love romances that started at a young age and tested by time. Liv and Danny's love was tested not only by time but also by distance. I loved how they were not able to really moved on past each other because I am evil like that. And I don't want them to be able to get-over with their feelings because hello? I already believed they are destined for each other. No messing with my beliefs, kiddo. ;)

End of Chapter 3: my deemed HOLY SHIT part. Holy-fucking-shit-there-are-freaking-goosebumps-on-my-arms. I was like, really?! REALLY?! Oh well, shits got real. ;)

One more thing I loved about this book is there's no cheating part. Like the author, cheating is a hard limit for me because I've been down that fucking road and I don't want to feel that feeling again -ever!- even just through a book. No. Just... HELL NO.

This book is actually a light read compared to the last few books I've read before this. There are no serious fucked-up pasts. You know, those pasts that sometimes make you want to commit suicide yourself because of the shitiness? Thank fuck this book was a breather!

~Playlist~

Most of you probably haven't heard of the two songs I included in my playlist because it is an OPM song. Having said OPM, you probably are wondering what the fuck is OPM? Well, it's an acronym for Original Pilipino Music, but honestly, it doesn't sound like it. ;)

I think I'm Scared to Death perfectly fits what Liv felt when Danny was about to move out of the country. Because let's face it, Danny leaving will scare the hell out of me too. And the song When I'm With You? THIS. This song for me best describes Danny's feelings for Liv.
Yeah we've had our ups and down
But we've always worked them out
Babe am I ever glad we made it this far now
Still I'm lying here tonight
Wishing I was by your side
Cause when I'm not there enough
Nothing feels right
So I'm coming back to show you that
I'll love you the rest of my life
