NIKKI: What's the story behind Apollo Academy? What made you write it? :)
KIM: I'm a HUGE reader and a few years ago I began to feel like there was something missing in my own reading pile. And you know the saying- Write the book that you want to read. . . Well, when I mentioned this thought to my husband, he encouraged me to do just that. Looking back now it seems obvious that I've been collecting pieces of The Apollo Academy my entire life. From nights spent looking through a telescope, Space Camp, flying lessons, to reading science fiction books. When I finished writing TAA I knew this was the book I'd been wanting to find. A book about a young woman who loved to fly. One that wasn't historical. One that was fun and sexy. . .The Apollo Academy.
NIKKI: Besides from your obvious love for aeronautics and writing, what are the other things that you love?
KIM: Reading! I usually have a book or kindle in front of my face. Like permanently. I also love baking cookies, watching movies, and going to the beach.
NIKKI:Do you have other dream jobs that aren't related to flying and/or writing?
KIM: Haha. No, not really. All of my dream jobs would include aviation in some way. Helicopter Pilot/Astronaut/Sky Dive Instructor. Though if I weren't so shy, I think it'd be fun to be an actress.
NIKKI: Are you an adrenaline junkie? What's the most extreme activity you've done?
KIM: "I feel the need, the need for speed." -Top Gun. Sorry! Couldn't help myself. Best adrenaline rush so far. . .jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.
NIKKI: Do you consider yourself a bookworm? Who's your favorite author? What's your favorite book?
KIM: I think everyone I know would call me a bookworm! I have a TON of favorite authors, but my all time favorites are Cinda Williams Chima, Kimberly Derting, Colleen Houck, Marissa Meyer, Richelle Mead, Kresley Cole, Jean M. Auel. Oh gosh...I can't seem to stop! I can't possibly pick a favorite book of all time, so I'll go with my favorite book right now. Poison Princess by Kresley Cole.
NIKKI: Who's your ultimate Hollywood crush?
KIM: Chris Pine!
NIKKI: If there's one place on Earth that you would want to live for the rest of your life, where would that be?
KIM: I live there right now, Charleston, SC. BUT if I didn't worry about being away from family, I'd move to Kona, Hawaii in a heartbeat.
NIKKI: Top 3 in your bucket list?
KIM: Earn my helicopter ratings, travel the world with my family and learn a second language fluently.
NIKKI: Tea or Coffee?
KIM: Sweet Tea
NIKKI: If time machines are feasible, what part of your life would you want to go back to?
KIM: Hmmm... I don't think I want to go back and change anything. But it would be fun to relive college life all over again!
