Nik reviews: JUST HUMAN by Kerry Heavens

~Synopsis~

Meet Liv and Danny…

Liv loves Danny. She knows she loves him more than he loves her, so she lets him go without a fight when his parents make him move back to America. She knows she will never love anyone like she loved him, but she has to move on.
Danny loves Liv. He knows he loves her more than she loves him, because she does nothing to get him to stay, so he goes quietly when his parents leave the UK.
He knows he will never love anyone like he loved her, but he has to move on.
Twelve years on, they have made a good job of pretending, they may have almost forgotten. But when they get in touch via Facebook, it seems that it is all still there. They quickly find that they are intensely compatible in ways they hadn’t even begun to explore before they were forced apart.
Can they put aside their fears and give it a go? Or will deep rooted doubts and insecurities tear them apart?

~Review~

Let me first list down the things I loved about this book:
  1. Danny
  2. Dual POV
  3. Love that stood the test of time << Ooohhhh.. Never knew I could also be deep sometimes ;)
  4. Danny
  5. No cheaters
  6. Danny
  7. Tattooed heroine
  8. Danny
  9. No fucked up pasts
  10. Danny

Basically, half of the list is because I love how... Wait... I listed 5 Dannys? But there was only one Danny, right? Okay. No, I will never gonna admit that I loved this book all because of Danny. Nope, not happening guys. Sorry. ;)

So... Kerry's debut novel? Shit, man, shit. Major cliffhanger. But I don't give a shit although I've said it quite a few times. I am not really a fan of cliffhangers but goddammit if this one didn't grow on me. Who wouldn't with Danny? Shit.

I love stories with separation and shit and getting back together and shit, so it was a no-brainer that I loved this book. The moment I read its blurb way back I knew I had to read this. And I didn't regret reading this!

I love romances that started at a young age and tested by time. Liv and Danny's love was tested not only by time but also by distance. I loved how they were not able to really moved on past each other because I am evil like that. And I don't want them to be able to get-over with their feelings because hello? I already believed they are destined for each other. No messing with my beliefs, kiddo. ;)

End of Chapter 3: my deemed HOLY SHIT part. Holy-fucking-shit-there-are-freaking-goosebumps-on-my-arms. I was like, really?! REALLY?! Oh well, shits got real. ;)

One more thing I loved about this book is there's no cheating part. Like the author, cheating is a hard limit for me because I've been down that fucking road and I don't want to feel that feeling again -ever!- even just through a book. No. Just... HELL NO.

This book is actually a light read compared to the last few books I've read before this. There are no serious fucked-up pasts. You know, those pasts that sometimes make you want to commit suicide yourself because of the shitiness? Thank fuck this book was a breather!

~Playlist~

Most of you probably haven't heard of the two songs I included in my playlist because it is an OPM song. Having said OPM, you probably are wondering what the fuck is OPM? Well, it's an acronym for Original Pilipino Music, but honestly, it doesn't sound like it. ;)

I think I'm Scared to Death perfectly fits what Liv felt when Danny was about to move out of the country. Because let's face it, Danny leaving will scare the hell out of me too. And the song When I'm With You? THIS. This song for me best describes Danny's feelings for Liv.
Yeah we've had our ups and down
But we've always worked them out
Babe am I ever glad we made it this far now
Still I'm lying here tonight
Wishing I was by your side
Cause when I'm not there enough
Nothing feels right
So I'm coming back to show you that
I'll love you the rest of my life
